High efficiency and high power density switch-mode power supply


Conventional DC-DC converters for charging the portable devices are limited by their charging power. This postdoc project is aimed to build high-efficiency DC-DC converters with minimum PCB footprint. Low-profile and high-efficiency DC-DC power converters with new topology, new drive, new control, and magnetic integration are being targeted.


By moving towards the high-efficiency fast charging technology, the charging times of portable devices could be reduced by increasing the output power. In order to avoid the thermal problem in the DC-DC converters under high output power, they need to be designed with very high-efficiency. The high frequency (HF) and very high frequency (VHF) power conversion technologies are suitable to meet these requirements and will be investigated.Perspective:
